VOLUNTEER PROFILE
Name: Professor Aiuenobrist Quintalian.
Age: 35
Physical Appearance: Image Reference.
Point in Timeline: Right before the first wave of volunteers under his care arrives on Zhautas.

World Description: Planet #050341, common name designated as Zhautas, was originally a resort planet. It advertised its diverse ecosystems as an all-inclusive getaway. Stressed businessmen and women, sightseers, and wayward souls all found themselves drawn to what was offered. For whatever the reason, it appealed to many and didn't disappoint in how plentiful it was. Wanted to ski in the snow-laden mountains then get a tan on the beach in the very same day? Wanted to party the night away? The Citadel was a wondrously advance mechanical hub that touted the best nightlife on this end of the galaxy. This point is: All this and more was possible on the planet of Zhautas! It was a world that seemed too good to be true. But don't pinch yourself (unless you're into that) because you weren't dreaming! It existed. And it was gorgeous. It still is, even if it serves a much different purpose these days.

It houses a number of alien species across its seven continents, all acclimated and adapted to the different environments. From the sand sharks to the more avian specimens, it is a world rich in history and culture. The natives of the planet enjoyed the boost in their economy that came from galactic travelers visiting their side of the universe. They also enjoyed being known as such a destination. It became a point of pride for many even if there were still some unhappy with so much outside influence on their home and the longterm ramifications of it.

Of course, this hubbub was all in the past. Zhautas' days as a resort planet are long over now in face of multiversal demise. It was an ideal location for the Zenith Corporation to begin its clinical trials on a cure for the disease ravaging the multiverse. Despite initial resistance, Zenith offered the planet what it would be losing monetary-wise in the conversion. Some questioned how their pockets were so deep but ultimately as long as they weren't losing, Zhautas agreed. As part of the agreement in the takeover, the Corporation has left the planet (for the most part) undisturbed. Its main operations and experiments are carried out on the island that houses volunteers.
History/Background: From a young age, Quintalian was driven by a pursuit of knowledge. He was fascinated with the world around him and what made it tick. That annoying kid that asked questions like 'Why is the sky blue?' or 'Why doesn't beer freeze when it's in a cooler?' Yeah, that was him. It was only natural that this great desire to understand led him down the path of a scientist. After scoring top marks in every tier of schooling, he became one of the most renowned minds that his universe had ever seen. Then, a whole bunch of other universes got in on the mix. Exciting!

The expansion of reality as they knew it sent him into a practical giddy tizzy. No, really. He had always dreamed of bigger and better things, of unraveling the mysteries that the universe had to offer. Now he had not only his own but countless others at his disposal. The door to an infinite amount of knowledge was blown wide open and easier to access than anyone could have ever imagined. It was fun until it wasn't. It was fun until he - and everyone else - became infected with an awful disease that threatened all life as they knew it.

Since this disease threatened, most importantly, his life, Quintalian decided to dedicate himself to finding a cure. It wasn't surprising to anyone that knew him that he was at the forefront of new discoveries about it. What was alarming, however, was the lengths that he was willing to go in order to obtain a cure. Before his connection to oxytocin was found, he noted the enhanced resiliency aquatic species had to the disease. The reasons were unclear but that didn't stop Quintalian from becoming his own test subject in splicing humanoid genes with the native aquatic species on Zhautas. Though the experiment was technically deemed a failure, that didn't put a dent in his determination in the least. He will always stand by the fact that sacrifices needed to be made in order to progress. He's honestly made the best of them, too!

It wasn't long before the Zenith Corporation recruited him personally to put his research into action. And that's where you come in, dear volunteers, to help the good professor in his studies.

Noteworthy Positive Characteristics:
Intelligent. As mentioned, Quintalian has always had sharp intellect from an early age. He is constantly wishing to learn and understand the world around him. Despite only being thirty-five, he knows a lot more than the average man and will gladly prove it.
Driven/Ambitious. When life gives you lemons, bite into them and suck them inside out. Or at least that's how Quintalian approaches most things in life: with vigor and a hint of reckless abandon. Just about nothing will stop him once he's set his mind to a task. For better or worse. When it comes to the volunteers, it's usually worse.
Passionate. Tying into the above trait, the professor is a man of passion. Of romance- Okay, wait, no. We're getting a little off topic here. Still! He tends to become very emotionally invested in the things he cares about, showing an excited enthusiasm for whatever catches his current fancy. Generally, he is a man who loves all things in the name of scientific pursuit but his other interests include the arts such as poetry and music. He also enjoys a nice bit of seashell collecting.
Handsome. What? This is totally a fair positive trait to list. Quintalian isn't necessarily vain but he does know that he is a cut above the rest in attractiveness. There's nothing wrong with being proud and confident in one's looks!
Noteworthy Negative Characteristics: While he tries to be charming and personable to volunteers, it ends up coming across as just a little bit off. Maybe it’s the way he smiles so big it’s more unsettling than reassuring; or, it could be how blithe some of his comments about the state of volunteer’s lives are. Either way, the professor isn’t known for his bedside manner nor professionalism.

One of his biggest weaknesses is that for as much of an intellectual as he is, he gives in to the whims of his heart fast as a snap. He's very impulsive when it comes to matters of the heart. A lot. Too much. Professor Quintalian has a reputation for being a bit intense. This is true in a lot of ways but especially his love life. While his attention can sweep people off their feet, it doesn’t last long before it’s far too much in too little time.

Unsurprisingly, this hasn’t gone well for him. When it doesn’t go well for him, it doesn’t go well for anyone else either. That’s the downfall to an unhinged intensity and being in a position of power that’s so easily abused. He’s been known to lash out and take his heartache and aggression out on volunteers, making the monthly experiments extra grueling or harsh. Or, on the other hand, he makes them saccharine and sappy to try and win back his former paramours.
Character Fears: Quintalian fears, above all else, failure. Otherwise, not a whole lot else gets to him!
Powers/Abilities: He is just your regular everyday normal guy. Other than being a colossal brainy nerd, Quintalian doesn't have any superhuman qualities to speak of. Oh, well, there is one thing. It's [spoilers].
Personal Item: A picture of Jeneviere that he keeps by his bedside. ♥

VOLUNTEER SAMPLES
Network Sample:
To Jeneviere: Jenny, dear, can you help with the most recent experiment planned? I think you'll like it, it has to do with the effects of some flower or other from Nevrione on the volunteers. Your insight would be greatly appreciated.
--
To Jeneviere: Unsure if you got my last message. I could still use your help if you're available. If you aren't, I can easily clear up your schedule. This is more important than whatever other tasks they might have delegated to you. And it won't take long, I promise.
--
To Jeneviere: Are you ignoring me, Jenny? I understand if you're mad but this really isn't very professional. Just because we may not have been as discreet last time as you usually like, it's not really MY fault. How was I to know the sound in that room would carry as far as it did? I've already made a note that our next arrangement will be somewhere more secluded.
--
To Jeneviere: :(((((((((((((

please answer me

Action Log Sample:

[ Aren't you nervous? a lab assistant asks him as he's making the final preparations for the newest arrivals. It's been a lot of barking orders and being a bit less kind than he'd like to the new staff but they need to learn he runs a tight ship from the start. Jeneviere rolls his eyes at the inquiry as he follows in line behind Quintalian in his last check. The Ison already knows the answer to that better than anyone else in this facility might.

He isn't nervous. Everyone thought he might be, even Jeneviere initially, but he's taken to his new position on Zhautas quite swimmingly. R.O.S.I.E. has been integrated into the operating system without a hitch thanks to his help, the volunteers are on their way... Everything is going exactly according to plan. And he knows that there's always room for error, a chance that things might fail. He of all people knows that.
]

No, [ he answers after a moment's pause. ] No, I'm actually rather excited. I have a good feeling about all this. I really do think this might be the answer we're looking for.

[ He hopes it is. For the sake of everything, he sincerely hopes.]
